My understanding of the abstraction of weapons is that grenades are factored in when the enemy unit is in the an adjacent hex to a friendly unit. Thus the +2 DFT Die Roll Modifier you get when attack an enemy adjacent to you. You're not just firing at them, but tossing grenades too.
