Firing at specific counters not a stack in a hex

If you can fire only at a specific counter in a hex and not at the whole stack of units in a hex, for an attack on hard targets why is the highest armor rating in the target hex subtracted from the AP power (8.1)? Should we not be subtracting the armor rating of the targeted counter? Also if we...

    Israeli Reinforcement and Israeli Refit

I have a 2 questions on the Rules. Q1: Israeli Reinforcement Table 1. It states a 1d6 die roll is made at the beginning of each reinforcement phase and if the die roll is equal to or less than the turn number, the Israeli units get the reinforcements set out in the table. So does this mean...

LOS and Hills: not well defined countour/silhouette

On page 60 it states that the center dot determines not just the type of terrain but also the level of the hex. For terrain elevation, I think the full hex based on center dot approach resolves a lot of ambiguity. The rule will not work for light woods hexes where the trees are so sparse that...

Adjacency between 1-level Multi-story Building hex unit and 0-level Clear hex unit.

Unless I am not understanding your question correctly, the answer is in 10.4.1 second bullet point: "Units in a separate building or a non building hex (including within a bunker or cave) adjacent to a hex containing a multi story building are considered adjacent to units in both levels of the...

    Multiple Units Firing Question

Hi Stephane, Let me first preface by saying that I think the Ver 5.0 rules are generally very well written and clear. On your 4 April reply, I did read it: "They still must fire during the same impulse as the unit possessing them and at the same hex." My problem with the above is that adding...

    Version 5 rules - LOS examples 5 and 7

I had a tough time figuring out the difference between these two examples as well. I eventually figured out that the difference must be the fact that brush is reflected as an obstacle that is "per terrain height" (i.e. sitting on the terrain's height but still not reaching to the next level)...

    Multiple Units Firing Question

Reading the phrase: "Remember that, for the most part, all units firing from the same hex, in the same impulse, must target the same hex. However, there are exceptions: SWs with to-hit tables (OFT) on the back of their counters (e.g., Bazookas)." it suggests that the exception is in relation...

    Attacking Unshakeable Troops

I checked the rules and you are right. Japanese units that suffer casualties, even though they are not shaken, have to stop movement unless they are conducting a Banzai attack. I will try the covering fire strategy and see if the US troops fare any better. Thanks.

    Attacking Unshakeable Troops

Thanks Stephane. I spread defending Japanese units out in a line across the board to cover every possible line of approach by the Americans and they are also all within range of their neighboring units. The Americans have to attack and advance to achieve their victory conditions within the...

    Attacking Unshakeable Troops

I have been trying out several scenarios of HOTP and the Japanese have always come out on top whenever the Americans need to attack to gain victory and the Japanese can just sit back and defend. The problem is that not all the American units can self rally and there are limited leaders among...

Bunkers - Hexes exposed to fire from inside

Wow! Thanks for going to such lengths to clear this up! Certainly leaves no room for doubt now.

Bunkers - Hexes exposed to fire from inside

I think your interpretation makes sense and is consistent with the rules as written (or implied). The LNLT rules generally make sense, as a result of which, sometimes they try so hard to be realistic that it becomes complicated and hard too remember.

Bunkers - Hexes exposed to fire from inside

Thanks very much as usual for your guidance Stephane. I initially read the LOS rule for bunker as you have indicated in the first paragraph of your answer but what set me off rethinking this afresh was the way this was treated in a play through on YouTube for HOTN, which seemed to be tracing...

Bunkers - Hexes exposed to fire from inside

Perhaps I am reading "traced through" too literally i.e. the LOS could be a straight line from the 3 front hexes of a bunker cutting through various hexes but not necessarily adjacent hexes starting from the front 3 hexes that run in a straight line?
  15. B

Bunkers - Hexes exposed to fire from inside

The rules state that units in a bunker can only direct fire along a line of sight traced through the front three hexes of the bunker. As LOS is traced through a straight line (and not like range which is traced through a series of interconnecting hexes or the forward arc of fire of vehicles...

Bunker - Opportunity Fire and Adjacency Modifier

Thanks Stephane. The multi-level analogy is helpful. So I suppose a unit entering a building from an adjacent hex can be op fired upon by enemy units in the same hex of the building but on the upper floor. It appears therefore that the enemy on the upper floor of a building, like enemy units in...

Bunker - Opportunity Fire and Adjacency Modifier

Usually adjacent units entering a hex, say for melee, cannot be fired upon by op fire from units in the hex. In this case, if these units can still be fired upon by units in the bunker, then the bunker's hex within a hex rule must prevail over the adjacency assumption (which you kindly pointed...

HOTP - Can shaken unit taking casualties activate in same turn?

Yes, I guess they need to be given the chance to run! Thanks Stephane.

Bunker - Opportunity Fire and Adjacency Modifier

Thanks Stephane. So if they are considered adjacent, is there also no Op Fire permitted by bunker units at units entering the hex (with the bunker) from the 3 hexes in front of the bunker?

HOTP - Can shaken unit taking casualties activate in same turn?

Thanks Terry! That makes a lot more sense! I was thrown off by the HOTP Module Rules book which shows a US army unit with both its GO front and Shaken reverse side with an arrow leading to a half squad with its GO and Shaken reverse side under the heading "American Squad Breakdown". The same...
