This option - force icon style - always greyed out, can't select:

That's intentional. Miquel had worked up some beautiful 2525C standard NATO icons for the units plus another older NATO set but these made the game run like a dog, so I disabled then. Alas speed is still an issue and a high priority one. So in fixing that we may be able to reinstate these. But for now it's just a hint of things to come.
