So, we know the rules are being updated, but what about the rest? Counters, boards, etc? What does this mean for the first edition owners?

No matter what, this does sound very awesome!

Hi Ken

First we are going to change the name from All Things Zombie Outbreak to All Things Zombie Reloaded. This will be more of a second edition release of the All Thing Zombie system closer to the original design by Ed. It will have the original maps plus two new maps and the counters will be different. They will look the same but will have different factors on them. Another new feature will be the building cars. The building cards will tell you the type of building you are trying to enter. It will also tell you what you may find. Now only some hexes will allow you to attempt to enter the building. Some ways will be harder than others. So if a horde of Zombies are chasing you and you can't break in well........... lets just say not good. Since different building cards will mean not the same type of building will be in the same hex from game to game expanding on the replayability of the game and the missions.

Ed is really doing a lot with the missions and making the game more than just killing Zombies. We will be making the rules available for free as part of our living rules edition. So if you own All Things Zombie 1st Edition you could play with some of the features but not all of them.

I will let Ed jump in now and explain any other features he wants to share.

Hi Ken,
Thanks for the interest. When All Things Zombie won an Origins Award back in '06 one of the major contributors was the mechanics for interacting with non-player humans. That aspect disappeared in the board game and is a major element of the upcoming game. Zombie games aren't about killing zombies, the good ones are about how the humans interact with each other as they try to survive and thrive in the zombie world.

All Things Zombie - Reloaded will bring this back. Using the new Event Cards NPCs can be generated as well as zombies. There are three types - Gangers, Survivors, and Militia - each behaving differently than the other. In the previous version they were automatically enemies. Now they could be friendly, neutral or enemies. It is possible to barter for items and even have them join your group and all controlled by the game mechanics.

Buildings, both the new and exiting ones, are being handled differently. There's a variety from a picked clean house to a high security complex. Some are easy to enter, some will cause you to stop and try and force your way in where failure generates zeds.

There's more changes and additions as well, especially a real campaign system with reasons to play from game to game. Time is tracked in monthly turns where you can choose 1 Encounter (think adventure) but there's a chance that the NPCs will choose to have 1 on you. More later.
