Spotting : C/F to next turn.

Me, I play solitaire. So in order to keep track of who fired at who, I can pretty much keep track in my head. My hardest thing to keep track of is Dice Roll Modifications. So I have a piece of scrap paper for notes. And if I leave in the middle of a scenario, I have the paper to jot notes down...

    Another LOS question

Sorry. Meant I2. But now I see what you're saying. It makes perfect sense.

Spotting : C/F to next turn.

This is where I have a house rule(s). 1. If a hex is spotted either by a spotting attempt, a unit firing from the hex or moving into the hex except under low crawl, that hex stays spotted until the spotting unit moves out of the LOS, the firing unit is destroyed or leaves. 2. In order to try...

    Another LOS question

On map A of TBATJ, I have an Afghan 1-6-4 on a roof top in H3 and a Soviet 2-5-4 in I3. The walls in Afghanistan are usually only chest or chin high to the average American guy. So I don't even count that. But are the Afghanies out of sight of the Soviets? Another question. If a hex is spotted...

    More maps.

I would like to see more maps for The Bear and The Jackal.

    Soviet BMP-1 & BTR-70

Stephane, appreciate it. I read further and then answered my own question. Strange how that happens.

    Soviet BMP-1 & BTR-70

I just received HATRS and am trying to relearn the system after years away. Please bear with my questions. On the Small-Arms vs Infantry PAC that has the counters displayed, there's no BTR-70. But my question is this. 1. On the 'First Probe' scenario, I have a BMP-1 in 58AG8 engaging...

    A few more questions

If an artillery attack lands in an adjacent hex to the target hex, how is it resolved as far as determining hits and defense? Do HQ's and SW's have to be deployed to different units each activation?

Out of Command and End of Scenario

If an HQ is eliminated, are all units considered OoC? The way I interpret the rules is: any unit out of command can not conduct ANY action other than Opportunity fire. So by interpretation, if an HQ is eliminated and there's no leaders available per the scenario rules, that should be automatic...

    Is this correct

Zac, thanks for the help. Now I feel a bit more comfortable.

    House Rules

The issue I have with the hills is: Are they representing rolling hills or mountains? According to the rules, that is only 32.8 feet to 82.0 feet.

    House Rules

Keith, LnLT refers to the Lock n' Load Tactical Series of games that predate WaW85 and you can find the spotting rule in their core rules for that series. At one time, I had several of the games published by Lock n' Load Publishing. One of their first games published was Heros of The Nam (HoTN)...

    House Rules

Spotting: I use the LnLT spotting rule. Vehicles with a Coax or heavy machinegun engage dismounted troops or trucks/jeeps with 1d6 and a 5/6 to hit and 3 hex max distance. Beyond effective range to double, a 6 to hit.

    Is this correct

Let me see if I have this correct on game play. Reference is Scenario 2. 1. My U.S. forces are deployed on the map. 2. The Soviets have the initiative. 3. I choose to activate two BMP-1s w/Inf, and one T-62 as a recon element in order to try and get the U.S. forces to engage, in hopes of...

    Two Step Units

Keith, thanks. It helps a lot. Yes I was referring to the M1 rolling 4 die on their attack.
  16. D

    Two Step Units

I know this has probably already been asked, but I couldn't locate it. I know when a 1-Step unit takes their second hit, they are eliminated. I'm assuming a 2-step unit is eliminated on their third hit. If an M1 engages a T80 and scores three hits on the first roll, is that considered three...

    Formation Cards Question

So there should be around 6-9 cards in the final deck? Is that what I'm reading?

    Formation Cards Question

I'm getting back into WaW85 with STG after a few years away. My first (of many) question is concerning the Formation Deck. Besides the End Ops, Formation card(s), and battlefield event cards, are there any other cards that go in the deck?

    Direct Fire & Ordnance on M1 Abrams/M2

Stephane, your explanation makes perfect sense. But having spent six years in the U.S. Cavalry makes it hard for me to look at things from anything other than real life. My wife won't even watch a war movie with me.

    Direct Fire & Ordnance on M1 Abrams/M2

The M1/M2 & M3 have Direct Fire and ordnance fire in the game. What is considered direct fire and what is considered ordnance on the M1? The M1 only has the 105mm main gun and M240C 7.62mm coax machinegun. What is considered direct fire and what is considered ordnance on the M2/M3? They both...
