Avoid Friendlies??

On the Edit Task there is toggle option "Avoid Friendlies". What does that do? Is it a step towards unit boundaries?

What about a use case where a regiment has to cross a river but must rebuild a bridge in the zone but many KM to the left or right there is an intact bridge. A peer regiment is to seize that bridge. If "avoid friendlies" is on will the first regiment stay away from the intact bridge and wait for the rebuilding of the downed bridge to complete?

What does the AI do with this?

Avoid Friendlies only applies to units with a bombard capability (arty, mortars).
When unticked it allows closer targeting of the fire mission.
In effect its like a danger close, or in extreme circumstances, a fire mission on ones own position.
