FTRE will change your idea of how military units operate because the game focus' on leadership. Not just the run around the map cheerleaders that most games have but leaders that affect every level of the game. From the number of orders/impulses you have per turn to the normal impact on firepower and movement.
As you can see, I have threatened the US leadership from the very beginning. Snipers have played a key factor in all modern warfare. The more accurate the weaponry the more of an impact they've had. Snipers are tough to knock out of action too. They have a high morale and extreme dedication.
So, putting a sniper in position to immediately threaten US leaders will give the Russian player some breathing space. Which could offset some of the tactical advantages the US has.
