Hello Dave and thanks for the great game. Anxiously awaiting BaB in Northern California.
Question 1 of 2 is regarding orders to units, battalions etc. If a unit does not have orders the information panel on that unit states "waiting". Will any waiting unit still defend itself even if it doesn't have a defend order?
Question 2 is regarding attack orders. If a unit is ordered to attack, how long will that attack continue and will the attacking unit pursue the target?

Thank you kindly, sir.

1. Units will always defend themselves when attacked. However, those that are waiting aren't deployed for efficient defense and are more prone to routing than defending if the attack doesn't permit them time to take cover or deploy in an effective defensive formation.

See pages 117 and 147 of the Game Manual for an explanation of how to assure units are deployed, and the stages of deployment.

2. Attacks continue until the attacking unit reaches the attack objective or until it exhausts itself and cannot continue.

The mechanics of an attack are explained on Pg. 82 of the game manual. Though the discussion is focused on seizing a victory point objective, the same mechanics apply to an attack where the objective is a user selected point on the map..
