Hey Fellas,

Since we do not have an 'off-topic' or 'general discussion' area, I drop this thread in the 'pit of stuff that doesen't fit anywhere else'.

I am trying to find reports or/and protocols of commanders of the aforementioned levels to increase my understanding of the conduct of war during WWII. I was hoping that some people on this forum could point me to some good online sources.

I have enough literature about diverse operations during WWII, I also own most of the Orsprey books and really like them, and try now to find more 'case examples'. Especially the chronology of events (how much time passes from order received, until the briefing of subordinates, how early are recon parties send out, etc) is something that I am trying to get a better understanding from.

Training documents/movies (Also Cold War Era if you have these), are also welcome. Some that I really like, and that show the same level of detail that I hope to find in the reports/protocols, are attached.

German
Thank you,

A

There's a great Soviet series of books: "Тактика в боевых примерах" ("Tactics in combat examples"). It has books on platoon, company, battalion, regiment and division levels. If you know Russian (or if you can tolerate things like Google Translate) you can download all levels but company here (http://www.soldat.ru/files/4/6/15/218/) and company level here (http://militera.lib.ru/science/taktika_rota/index.html). All examples are from WWII.
