Spotting clarification

If i understand the spotting rules correctly i can use ANY valid unit to make one spotting attempt anytime during my impulse. I am not restricted to use for spotting one of the units in the activated hex, right?

So i can start my impulse activating a hex and doing actions, then i can choose a valid unit elsewhere on the map to make one spotting attempt and then i can continue doing actions with my remaining units in the activated hex. Correct?

Yes, although you usually want to spot first thing in your impulse

Usually yes, but sometimes you may want to move some units, see if someone will OpFire at them (and expose themselves) and if not you may want to spot and then fire with the remaining of your units from the activated hex.
