But wait.... I also have a used copy of Normandy (1st) coming, what do you guys think? should I save the shrinks? is it worth my while opening for more counters etc?
I read the original maps are not everyone's favorite. Would appreciate any input.

Save the shrinks. Heroes of Normandy is much better, map's graphic wise and in terms on number of counetrs

Personally, I open every game that comes into my house. Never "save the shrink". Games are meant to be played, not looked at.

yea, HON is really hard to find so I managed to get BOH fairly reasonable on ebay, found a new SaB on boardgamegeek market. probably save the shrink for a while. would be a reasonable package BOH and SAB. Got it before HON, im just curious if its nice to have the extra counters etc. there is the cards as well.

If you are making your own scenarios then yes the extra counters are great.
And I prefer the Skills cards to the method used now.
