In playing the Starter mod for LnLT, there are a few questions:
  • the printed Starter Kit has two scenarios each for Nam and WW2, but there is only one in the Vassal mod. In addition, only the first page of the scenario is available in the pdf?
  • in the WW2 scenario, as played in the walkthrough file downloaded from the site, both a StuG and bazooka are brought into play, but they are not in the mod?

Hello Eagle,

There is a new version 2.2 Starter Kit Vassal module that can be downloaded at the Vassal website, vassalengine.org. The new version includes all four scenarios. There are other new features too, such as 3-D dice with die rolling sound, plus unit movement trails. Give it a look and let us know what you think.

In answer to your your second point, basically, the Starter Kit Vassal module contains everything that comes in the current printed Starter Kit. As an introductory product, the Starter Kit does not go into the rules for vehicle combat. However, it does include several leader, infantry, and MG-type SW counters for each side, for use in both WWII and Modern scenarios.

I hope that helps. /TG

that's a real shame as new players will miss out on vehicular combat before they make a final financial decision to join the system. In my opinion vehicular combat is at least 50% of the game's charm. It also doesn't include heroes for some of the scenarios, this I think is also a mistake as the rules are written and available on-line for everyone, and other heroes are included in the kit. Still an awesome kit just needs some minor tweaks.

The thing that seemed strange was that as one plays plays through the example given in the published online walk-through, these items (bazooka and Stug) are there, so it would be nice to be able to do the whole scenario to see how it all plays out as described.

Hi,

We left the Vehicular and the Heroes rules out of the Starter Kit to help make the game a little easier to learn and play through. Since the complete rule set is available as a free download it easy enough to download and read those rules if the person is interested.

One can always grab the full HoN module to set that up if they wish.

Agree, went ahead and did that for Vassal mod, and it works great. It just seemed curious that the "starter" wouldn't have all the toys described in the published walk-through from the publisher.
