Hello,

Which way is N-S-E-W on the Day of Heroes map? Is north at the top where the "1's" begin, and east to the right?

It usually indicates North in each scenario setup, at least for the games I own:

I think you can safely assume that North is up (where the "1s" begin)when you put the map number in correct position (i.e. lower left corner). At last, that is how I always played it
