I'm playing through the 5 scenario campaign and notice that the bonus for the winner is to recover one abandoned non-wreck non-rubbled vehicle to use in the next scenario...

Am I missing something? What if the vehicle survived? Is it really true that you can bring an abandoned tank with you but not a healthy one? Am I somehow misunderstanding everything (I don't think I am) and healthy units already get carried over in some way?

No, I don't think you are missing something. If you win a scenario with a friendly abandonned tank, you get said abandonned tank in the next scenario. If you have no tank, no tank left or just "healthy', tank, you don't get anything
