9.2.4 Interceptor Waves

Guys i am not sure i get the concept of Interceptor waves.

"If the Enemy has more than 4 Interceptors attacking all the Elements, the extra Interceptors will attack in a second (or third) Wave"

What is this "more than 4 Interceptors" thing? It is not mentioned in the rules that you can send just 4 Interceptors at most.

It is mentioned that you can send maximum of 4 Escorts to provide a Cover Support one Element. But that may be just a coincidence ...

Does it mean maximum of 4 Interceptors per each Element?

So let's say i have one Element and 5 Interceptors. How would it go? I don't understand the wave mechanics and it is not described in the rules, it is merely stated. So i ask ...

The key word, to me anyway, in the rule is "all". I think the rule would be way simpler if the word "Elements" was replaced with "bombers". By the way, that's the way I'm playing the game. Period.
