HQ Question

At the beginning of the game, the HQs are placed in the ready to deploy box. as soon as the formation card is drawn, the HQ is placed on a unit in the formation.
Does the HQ stay on the unit during the game until it loses a step? or does the HQ have to return to the ready to deploy box after each round?

It can stay deployed with that unit or transfer to another unit of the same formation. See 7.2.2. HQs can also become reduced or suppressed as a result of Direct Fire against units it is deployed with. See 10.7.2

No. See 7.2.2 and 10.7.2.
