Movement and defence in bombed out towns

After Caen was bombed by the Allies during the Normandy campaign two unintended consequences occurred - one, defence of the city itself by the Germans became easier; two, once captured by the Allies movement through the city became more difficult until the rubble had been cleared. Two immediate examples where similar effects occurred are Monte Casino and Stalingrad but the examples are numerous. Is this sort of thing possible to be modelled in the game short of redesigning maps for each day of the battle?

I think the game could really use terrain-destruction. With the amount of artillery on map villages/towns would probably get turned into rubble pretty quickly.
