Placing Snipers

Other than the requirement to place a sniper in a hex with a positive TM with no enemy currently occupying the hex, must a sniper be placed within the specified set-up area of its forces in the scenario (after set-up is finished and play has started)? There does not appear to be such a restriction. For instance, could it even be placed behind enemy lines? This seems to be possible. Would appreciate any guidance from experienced players of LNL Tactical. Thanks.

If your sniper placement is restricted in a scenario, there will be a SSR to this effect. No SSR, no restriction. That being said, sniper are very vulnerable ot Melee and you usually want to insure that the ennemy won't get at him/her too fast, by having some covering fire, which is very hard to provide if your sniper is behind enemy lines :)

Thanks Stephane and good point on the danger from melee. However I was thinking of placing the sniper behind enemy lines only after the enemy has advanced significantly towards their objective for it to be no longer worthwhile for them to turn back just to deal with the sniper. Of course the sniper needs to make sure that from where it is, it is able to keep within range of the advancing (retreating from the sniper's perspective) enemy since it cannot relocate once placed.
