Two variants

here are two variants I am tinkering with.

1. Interceptor types: I used the following to determine multiple types of intercetors in a single fighter encounter

A. Roll for number of interceptors first

B. Then roll this number of dice to determine type of interceptors (ex. I roll a 6 for number of interceptors. I then roll 6 dice with the following results- 1,2,1,6,2,6. Using the 1943 row, I would receive Bf109 x4 and ME 110 x 2.

C. I use the following precedent for placement in the Interceptor box:
1. ME 262 first
2. FW 190 or Bf 109 next (randomly select if I have a mix
3. ME 110 last
4. Place Aces randomly, unless ME 262 are available- they should have priority.
5. Escorts are then placed left to right.

Next variant

I have been playing 4 missions per turn ( rotating the turn counter 90 degrees per mission).

1. Interceptor types
Definitely looks interesting, how has it been working for you? Does it add too many more die rolls?
We thought about multiple interceptor types in combat but felt it was best to keep it simple and not have the possibility of players getting bogged down trying to figure out priority, precedence, ace placement etc... But I like what you have as a framework.

I have been playing 4 missions per turn ( rotating the turn counter 90 degrees per mission).
So basically 100 total missions in the full 25 mission campaign?

Hi Tony!

For interceptors variant, the die rolls for the type of interceptors are not cumbersome ( I chest and roll multiple dice at once).

The opportunity to engage different fighter types seems more interesting and feels right.
For example, using this system, for a 1943 encounter, I rolled a 6 for number of interceptors.
My subsequent rolls produced 4 x Bf 109 and 2 x ME 110.
6x P38 engaged. The 109s were all damaged but the 110s got through to the bombers

I think the 4 missions per turn reflects a more realistic feel to the stress and attrition for a squadron.
I think the victory pts system can stay the same.

I limit the campaign to a specific period ( ie 1943)
