Just curious if there has been any news on a new engine or follow up? Thank you!
As I understand it, work is underway on a new scenario pack dealing with the allied post-Normandy pre-Market Garden attack through France. Though it is the next pack to be released, no date has been set for its completion. In addition, there is work underway for an East Front pack as a subsequent release.
In the past, pack releases have also coincided with engine updates. The updates are usually automatic whether you purchase the scenario pack or not.
Depends on what you mean by update. Patches are free, but per Dave's pricing structure a core engine update is not free. That would include sequential tasking, dis/mounted ops. We haven't had an engine update since CO2 came out.
You're wrong about the core update.
Here's the pricing policy:
There has been a lot of rumours and false information going around about our pricing policy. I want to clarify what it is. By way of preamble, this pricing policy is not a subscription service. It is a little different in that you get the game engine for free and pay for the data content. It's an attempt by us to try a different model so we can continue developing our products. The old model of releasing a series of self contained games hasn't worked for us. So we need to try something different and this is it.
Command Ops 2 Pricing Policy
Core Engine = the Game app and editors plus the three scenarios currently in the Core
Data Modules = the Scenarios, maps, estabs and other data packaged in a module format
Minor Build = new version of the Core designed to address bug fixes
Core Update = new version of the Core that ad new features
Module Update = new version of the data modules designed to work with a particular Core Update
The Core Engine is free, including all future minor builds and core updates.
The Data Modules (including bundle packs) you pay for. There will be a fee for the initial purchase and then there will be an optional fee to update the data so that it may be used with a Core Update.
You are not required to update your data and can continue to use it with an earlier version of the engine. That is completely your choice.
If you chose to update then there will be an update fee that will be determined at the time of the release of the core update based on the extent of the new features. It will not be more than 50% of the initial purchase cost.
We will offer generous bundle deals to update your existing data.
There will be no fee for conversions of data if these are necessary for a minor build.
We hope to release one and possibly two core updates each year. This is an aspirational target.
True, sorry the engine is free with the free scenarios but each module has to be updated for a cost.
Only if you want to update your modules, you don't have to, the game will continue to play fine without the update. If you think any new features will enhance one or all of the modules you own you can choose to pay to upgrade any or all of them.
So to paraphrase in order to use a core update one must rebuy the game at 1/2 price that price varying based on how many modules you own and wish to make usable with the new core update.
How's that model workin' out for ya?
No idea yet, no core update has been released.I'm in wait and see mode, I'll reserve judgement until then.
No! Core updates are free!
Read the Command Ops 2 Pricing policy.
Core updates are generally released in concert with a new module, but they can be installed without purchasing the new module.
Money is not a problem, anyway, I will buy, I would like to ask, when we can make our own editing UI? Although everyone's aesthetic is not the same, but I still think the UI is really ugly.
