So as the Germans to race down the roads would you:
leapfrog assaults with several formations?
use a move command, probe command?

Trying to think what command would best simulate the move to contact road formations that were necessary due to the terrain. My thoughts are leapfrog assault commands... What are yours?

As I understand it, the probe command allows for the best forward progress on a path (it would follow a road for "quickest" movement) while also being quickly deployed to avoid serious damage if the probing force encounters resistance.

My tactics for probing a route are sending a force on the probe mission while dispatching a trailing force with a move mission along the probing force's path. I adjust the trailing force's speed, delaying it's start for a few minutes after initiating the lead force's probe mission and adjust the orders when the probing force makes contact.

Depending on the apparent strength of the enemy force, I usually set the probing unit to a defend task on reaching contact and order an attack by some or all of the trailing force on the enemy contacted.

I tend to use recon units as probing forces, primarily because they have high mobility, but, because dedicated recon units tend to be light combat forces, I don't use them for an attack unless I want some extra strength mixed in with a main attacking force.

If I have no dedicated recon units for the probe, I'll defer to a tank company or, in some cases, a motorized anti-tank gun unit.

That's a great response, really good you know the game system so well!
I do have the recon units out front of the lead elements of the 2nd Panzer and 130 Panzer Lehr.

Thanks again

It wasn't as much understanding the game system as being able to apply the tools the game provides to standard military tactics.

There's a concept of "fixing the enemy" in military science.

It involves identifying the enemy dispositions before building plans to counteract them.

You can find some information on performing the tactical processes here:
