V 5.0 Rules 1.6.3 Flamethrowers & 1.7 Weapon Teams & 1.7.1 Ordnance Weapon Teams
HotM, scenario Tough as Nails

A 45mm AT gun weapon team that is set up in Heavy Construction (and upstairs as allowed by SSR) building is attacked by a flamethrower. The AT gun weapon team Shakes as a reults of the flamethrower attack.

Does the weapon team abandon the gun when forced to retreat back a hex due to the flamethrower effect? If so, is it replaced with a shaken crew (that retreats) and leaves a gun in the hex that was attacked? If the weapon team cannot move separately from the gun, is it destroyed instead (per 1.6.3).?

Weapon teams never generate crew counters for any reason. So I'd say the WT is destroyed.
Even if there was a crew created, the gun would be destroyed as there's no mechanism in LnLT for crews to re-crew vehicles, or guns, once abandoned. So same effect in the end. Crews are pretty useless as units and many people just ignore them.

As an aside, the SSR allow you to setup in a building but not move into them so yes, if forced to retreat, it is eliminated (because it is on the upper level and could only move to another "forbidden" building hex). If it was on the ground floor, it could retreat outside.

Also, this tidbit from page 23 partially answer your question: If a WT is eliminated, its weapon is considered destroyed and cannot be captured or re-Crewed as SWs can.
